The University of Texas at San Antonio women’s basketball has announced it’s 2005-06 schedule, highlighted by five teams with post season experience, including nationally ranked PAC-10 foe Arizona State Sun Devils (who reached the NCAA Sweet 16), Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters and Texas-Arlington. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and West Virginia, both went to the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) last season.
UTSA will open the 2005-06 season at the Central Florida Tournament on Nov. 18-19, where they will play Big East foe West Virginia and Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference member Florida A&M. The Roadrunners return home to host Tulsa (Nov. 22) and the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 25-26 at the Convocation Center.
UTSA will go on a four-game road trip, beginning on Nov. 29 at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, then travel to Houston, Texas for the Rice Invitational on Dec. 2-3, where they will face Louisiana Tech and then either Davidson or Rice. The Roadrunners finish their road swing at Tempe, Az., against Arizona State on Dec. 19. The Runners close out the year hosting the Wells Fargo New Year’s Classic with Buffalo, Colorado State and Tulsa making up the rest of the field.
UTSA opens Southland Conference play at home against Southeastern Louisiana on Jan. 5 and McNeese State on Jan 7. The Roadrunners travel to Louisiana-Monroe (2005 SLC regular season co-champs) on Jan. 14 and Sam Houston State on Jan. 19. The Runners end the month with a three-game homestand against Stephen F. Austin (1/21), Northwestern State (1/26) and Louisiana-Monroe (1/28).
The Roadrunners open February with a four-game road trip to Nicholls State (Feb. 2), Southeastern Louisiana (Feb. 4), McNeese State (Feb. 9) and Sam Houston State (Feb. 11). UTSA returns home to host last season’s SLC regular season co-champs and tournament champs Texas-Arlington on Feb. 16 and I-35 rival Texas State on Feb. 18. The Roadrunners end the regular season on the road at Natchitoches, La. against Northwestern State on March. 3. The SLC Tournament is slated for Mar. 6-12.
