Frank Wilson has been fired as head football coach after four seasons with the Roadrunners. UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Lisa Campos announced on Sunday Dec. 1.

“I want to thank Coach Wilson for his efforts on behalf of the football program and the university, and for his commitment to his student-athletes,” stated Campos.

Wilson was brought on as head coach after former head coach Larry Coker who resigned on Jan. 5, 2016. In his four seasons with the ‘Runners, Wilson had a 19-29 record as well as leading the ‘Runners to their first ever bowl game appearance in 2016.

Wilson never had more than six wins in a season during his tenure with UTSA and only compiled a 13-19 record in Conference USA during his time. Attendance hit some record lows this season as well with the most recent home games against Rice University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham averaging under 9,000 fans.

“It is important that we take the steps that will help us build for the future and keep UTSA Athletics a vital part of the community.”

Campos said that the hunt for the next head coach will begin immediately.
