Along the intersection of West Commerce and Zarzamora, 17 street artists painted murals across several buildings this weekend.
On Sunday, San Antonio hosted its first Ozone Action Day of the year. Citizens with respiratory issues were encouraged to stay inside and to be more environmentally conscientious. The event comes from the state of the city’s air conditions on Sunday, which was favorable for producing high levels of ozone pollution.
Metro Health is launching mobile clinics on the South, West and East side of San Antonio. Individuals 16 and up are eligible to receive a vaccine with no appointment necessary.
In 2020, San Antonio homicides increased, the first spike in three years. The city also has seen an increase in unsolved killings. In 2019, the percentage of investigations that resulted in identification was 70%, and in 2020, 62% went unsolved.
On Monday night, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Commissioner Justin Rodriguez reported 216,339 total COVID-19 cases and 3,350 total deaths in Bexar county. An increase of 233 new cases and no new deaths were added to the count since last week. In addition, there are 262 hospitalizations. According to Mayor Nirenberg, the positivity is 1.9%, one of the lowest of any Texas metropolitan area with a seven day rolling average of 246 cases.
Of the 19,312,495 vaccine doses sent to Texas, 17,307,611 have been administered. 14.8% of the population has received their first dose, and 24.4% have been fully vaccinated. In Bexar County, 258,800 people, 13.3% of the population, have received their first dose, and 447,886 people, 22.9% of the population, have received both doses.
