    Possible summer activities

    Santikos Centennial Celebration Film Series:

    Free Movie every Tuesday at 7 p.m. until June 7 exclusively at the Rialto, Northwest and Mayan Palace. Santikos will be showing movies such as “Independence Day”, “Walk the Line” and “Bruce Almighty.” Hot dogs and apple pie will be sold for two dollars.

    Free Movie at the Bijou:

    Every Thursday at 7 p.m. until the end of July enjoy a movie on San Antonio’s premiere art house cinema. The Bijou will be showing movies such as “The Notebook”, “West Side Story”, “Saving Private Ryan”, “Black Hawk Down” and “We Were Soliders.”  The theatre is located around the 410 and I10 interchange on Fredricksburg Road.

    June 1st through the 4th:

    The cast from the Magik Theatre will be putting on Shakespeare in the Park at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens. This year they will be putting on Twelfth Night. Doors open at 6:30 pm, and admission is free. Be sure to get there early; bring your own blankets and chairs, and grab a good spot on the garden grounds!

    June 3rd through the 5th:

    San Antonio Summer Art and Jazz Festival at Crockett Park. Admission is free. A portion of the profits from this event will benefit local nonprofit organizations. It’s going to be a great time, with lots of good music, art and food.

    June 26th:

    Van’s Warped Tour at the AT&T Center. With a large line up of bands, there is sure to be something for everyone. Temperatures get hot so be sure to bring lots of water. This year bands like August burns Red, Big D and the Kids Table and Gym Class Heroes are just a few on the list. Tickets are already on sale starting at $45.00.

    July 10th through August 7th:

    Suits and Sleuths: Midcentury Modernism in Film. Hang out at the McNay Art Museum every Sunday afternoon and become familiar with 1950s cinema. Movies start at 2pm and are free with museum admission.

    July 16th:

    Jacks Mannequin is playing with Steel Train and Lady Danville at Backstage Live. Tickets will be $26.50. Lead singer Andrew McMahon (formally of Something Corporate) and the rest of the band are sure to put out some good tunes. The band is expected to release a new CD in August or September of this coming year titled “People and Things.”

    June 26th,  July 24th August 28th , September 18th :

    The McNay Summer Jazz & Lunch Series. Come and enjoy a four part music series sponsored by KRTU radio station. The series is free with museum admission. Music starts at 12:30 p.m. and ends at three.  Guests include Ken Slavin, John Magaldi and the Primetime Jazz Orchestra, Henry Brun and the Inernational Jazz Trio and Richard Oppenheims A&R band.
