Men’s tennis has strong showing at ITA

TULSA, Okla. – Junior Rodrigo Morgado and freshman Pedro Zanotelli both collected wins at the ITA Regional in Tulsa, Okla., over the weekend.

Morgado opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-3, win against Cleveland State’s Ryan Hamning in the first round. The Balneario Camboriu, Brazil native then cruised to past Dario Beslic from Oral Roberts to advance to the third round. He then defeated Leo Rosenburg from Hawai’i, before falling to TCU’s Emanuel Brighui in a hard fought three setter (4-6, 6-1, 6-4).

Meanwhile, making their Roadrunner debuts were freshmen Jorge Delgado and Zanotelli. Delgado dropped a three set match to Phillip Anderson from New Mexico. Zanotelli picked up his first collegiate win in straight sets (6-3, 6-0) against Peter Sullivan from Oral Roberts, but then fell to Anton Bobytskiy from Oklahoma State. Senior Robin Fernandes was also in action, but lost his match to New Mexico State’s Jim Brouleau (6-7, 6-2, 6-3).

UTSA returns to action this weekend as it hosts the UTSA Invitational at the UTSA Tennis Center.
