Student crashes car, kills power near UTSA

A UTSA student crashed his Jeep Liberty into a utility pole on Roadrunner Way, Nov. 17 at approximately 9:50 p.m.

The impact damaged the utility pole and a transformer, causing a power outage in the University oaks, Phase III, and the surrounding area.

San Antonio Police Department Officer Marte said that the vehicle was traveling to fast, when the driver lost control and hit the pole.

“No injuries were sustained and no alcohol was involved,” Marte said.

J. Lewis, CPS Energy technician, who repaired the transformer, said that the damage would have been worse if there were no fuse protection on the line.

“It would be better if kids were taught to drive at the schoolhouse (UTSA),” Lewis said.
