This week, UTSA welcomes novelist Teju Cole as part of theDepartment of English Creative Writing Reading Series. Cole is expected to makea visit to the main campus on Feb. 22.
Cole, who was raised in Nigeria, is the author of two books:“Every Day is for the Thief” and “Open City,” which earned the PEN/HemingwayAward and the New York City Book Award for Fiction.
Cole’s work delves into the immigration and success of theprotagonist Julius, a young psychiatrist in a foreign country.
Currently, Cole is a contributor to the New York Times and ispracticing street photography in his spare time.
Future plans include a non-fiction piece about Lagos,Nigeria, and “Small Fates”—a Twitter project that highlights short narrativesfrom Cole.
