Eddie Money pays a visit to the Aztec Theatre

It’s time to tease your hair, find your hidden acid washed jeans and put on your best rock attire because the legendary American rock singer-songwriter, Eddie Money, is coming to San Antonio Sunday, February 16, at the Aztec Theatre. Money, who is most famous for his 80s hit singles “Baby Hold On” and “Two Tickets to Paradise,” is back to perform in the city that he loves.

Eddie Money, born Edward Joseph Mahoney, at a young age decided to quit law enforcement, move to California to reunite with his high school band and change his name to Eddie Money. “I just took the A and the H out of Mahoney and just turned it into Eddie Money,” says Money. Money found success in the 1970s and 1980s and received a string of Top 40 hits and platinum albums.

Money is the second performer to take the stage after PHH Ventures Entertainment LLC has invested $2 million to redevelop the 1920s theatre into a new concert venue that can accommodate mid-size touring acts. The interior is decorated with fixtures, furnishings, relief carvings, sculptures, plaques, painted symbols and architectural elements inspired by the Aztec, Mixtec, Zapotec, Toltec and Mayan cultures. The theatre has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1992, which helped keep it safe from destruction.

Money explained that he is excited for this performance and hopes it will run smoothly unlike former concerts in his career. “Having the lights go out in the middle of the show and having the rain come down in buckets. I was actually singing songs out of a bullhorn because I wanted to get paid.”

With the Aztec holding about 2,000 seats, there is more availability for the fans to come out and see the show. “The show is going to be great, I know it. I’ve got Two Tickets to paradise but I’m taking everybody.” The historic Aztec Theatre is set to open its doors to other upcoming shows with renowned artists like George Thorogood, Buddy Guy and Poison’s Bret Michaels.
