HOUSTON – The UTSA soccer team snapped its five-match losing streak with a 3-1 victory at Houston on Friday night in its final non-conference contest of the year.
The Roadrunners (2-6-1) grabbed the early lead when sophomore Jenny Munoz scored her first goal of the season at the 36-minute mark of the first half. Sophomore Halee Hamm was credited with the assist. Houston (4-3-2) knotted the match at one on Islara Rodriguez’s goal with 4:01 remaining in the frame.
UTSA regained the lead just before the half when sophomore Ezinne Okpo dribbled down the middle of the field and lobbed a shot over the goalie.
Sophomore Veronica Najera’s goal gave the Roadrunners a 3-1 lead with less than eight minutes remaining in the match.
Okpo tallied a team-high four shots, while freshman Alli Dillon recorded three. Sophomore Kim Selman and Hamm each collected one assist apiece.
UTSA goalie Rachel Francis had four saves and sophomore Kasi Hebert totaled four of her own in the second half.
The Roadrunners open Southland Conference play on Oct. 5 when they travel to Nicholls State.
