Fresh off a 54-7 shellacking of Bacone, the Roadrunners returned to work Sunday to prepare for their next opponent, the Sam Houston State Bearkats, who the Roadrunners will face on Saturday in Huntsville, Texas.
The Bearkats pose the toughest competition yet for the Roadrunners. As the No. 16 team in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) the Bearkats will be the first ranked opponent the Roadrunners will have faced.
The Bearkats got to No. 16 in the nation by starting out 3-0 with victories over Western Illinois, Central Arkansas and an overtime victory on the road at New Mexico. New Mexico is a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) which added to the luster of the Bearkats victory.
“Sam Houston is a really good team,” Roadrunner Head Coach Larry Coker said. “They showed they were the better team against New error.”
