This past Friday, October 1st, Chelsea Handler graced us with her comedic presence at the Municipal Auditorium in downtown San Antonio. Handler was in town to promote her most recent book, “Chelsea Chelsea, Bang Bang” (also the title of her Belvedere-sponsored, multinational tour), which was released in March of this year.
Handler’s sarcastic and honest humor has made her one of the most famous comedians around today and she didn’t hold anything back for her routine in San Antonio. Handler opened the show with some jokes about her travels in Texas, and then moved on to some material from her recent book as well as humorous insight into her everyday life. The show, which lasted a good hour and a half, was packed with fans dying to hear more from the comedian and also featured Josh Wolfe as the night’s opener, one of the many comedians featured on Handler’s hit E! Newtw talkshow, Chelsea Lately.
The show featured an awkward moment when an excitable fan yelled to Handler about the bar being out of vodka. Handler handled it with her normal, witty humor, saying that if she had known that the bar was out of vodka, she would have had it covered. Handler has consistently made jokes and references about vodka, her known liquor of choice, hence her 2009 New York Times bestselling book, “Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea”.
For those who had not read her most recent book, hardcover copies were available for purchase at the show. The purchase of a book at the show also afforded you a wristband which could then be used at the end of the show to have Handler exclusively autograph the book. Fans that were not able to attend the show where given an alternatvie chance to meet the comedian at the Quarry shopping center’s Borders Books for a book signing earlier that evening. Handler inspired T-shirts were also available for sale with common Chelsea Lately phrases such as “Hot Pocket”, “Coslopus”, “What a Whirl Wind”, or “I Love Chunks” printed on them.
Handlers’ late night comedy talk show has been one the highest rating shows for the network since it began and continues to be successful. The show features a “round table” discussion with other comedians and also features guest ranging from actress Jennifer Aniston to rapper TI. The show’s continued popularity has lead to her stand-up tour and also a Comedians of Chelsea Lately Tour featuring her regular show comedians.
The “Chelsea Chelsea, Bang Bang” tour is in full swing and is showing in numerous cities in the U.S. through the end of the year and into January. Tickets are available through Live Nation with prices starting around $50.
