And then there were four: top taco

San Antonians are stuffing their faces, covered in cilantro, beans and cheese, as they continues the search for the city’s top taco. With one more week to go, The Paisano’s Top Taco contest has narrowed down the number of competitors to the final four. The restaurant’s are as follows:

Ricky’s couldn’t be in a more convenient location for UTSA students. On the opposite of UTSA Blvd., across the street from the Shell Station, Ricky’s caters to the late-night Cantina crowd. Cheap and messy, Ricky’s tacos are a great late night snack. Don’t be deceived by its appearance, even though Ricky’s is a taco truck, it offers a variety of specialty tacos, and three unique salsas; making it competition for any full size restaurant. Ricky’s currently holds second in the race.

Mama Margies

This taco joint has been a San Antonio favorite since it opened in 1993. Mama Margie’s serves delicious tacos all day and night. On top of their tasty tacos, they have an excellent chips and salsa bar. Mama Margie’s caters to those who are looking for a little bit of fun as well by singing Karaoke on Monday and Tuesday nights, depending on the location. They may not serve traditional Mexican food, but Mama Margie’s is great San Antonio Tex-Mex. The locals seem to love it.

Student’s at UTSA are very familiar with Chela’s red taco truck. Since 2009 Chela’s has been providing students as well as anyone in the area with a variety of breakfast and lunch tacos. Chela’s serves tacos like barbacoa, pastor, chicharon en salsa verde, potato and egg and bean and cheese. Chela’s la costra del guero taco is out of this world. La costra is a white cheese fondue with carne asada, chorizo or pastor and corn tortillas. Regardless of its location, Chela’s has a crowd that will follow, their tacos are just that good.

Taqueria Datapoint

Taqueria Datapoint is a gem hidden off of Medical Drive. Within the last few years, the restaurant has doubled in size, proving its exponential popularity. Inside the taqueria you’ll find Northern Mexico tastes mixed with Tex-Mex options. With such a variety of tastes and cultures, Taqueria Datapoint caters to everyone. Their tacos are incredibly affordable and full of flavor. You know the food is top-notch; it even impresses the local Hispanic community.
