UTSA’s University Center Program Council (UCPC) hosted The Mega-Ultimate Game Night Extravaganza on Nov. 7.
The UCPC works to create a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere, offering karaoke, Guitar Hero, Rock Band and many other games.
“I like it, I think it is nice. I come here to play pool,” Kade Southerland, freshman business major, said
“It is free to all students and a great opportunity for students to come out and socialize and have a good time,” Tabitha Byrne, assistant director for UC Programs said.
Students need to show their student ID at the front desk and then are able to check out equipment, free of charge.
“We were formed in August of 2008. The UCPC is a student-led organization to provide opportunities for the cultural, educational, social and personal growth of UTSA students through activities within the UC,” Byrne said.
“We also organized several weekly events during the academic year: CoffeeHouses on Wednesdays featuring nationally recognized singer-song writers who play in the UC; an open mic program, which provides an open forum for students to showcase their artistic talents and opinions; Poetry Jams, featuring HBO Def Jam poets and UCinema Nights, featuring free popcorn and box-office favorites on Fridays and Saturdays,” Byrne said.
Bryne said these events give students a chance to show school spirit and meet new people.
“We are here because we think it is important to provide a variety, along with consistency, so that students can count on the UC for quick hits of fun and socializing during the week and weekend,” Byrne said.
Lindsey Hrncir, UCPC member and junior finance major said, “Before I got involved in events like these, I would just go to school and then home. Until I started going to these events I didn’t feel like I had a voice.”
