Women’s Golf in third after two rounds of Lady Cardinal Invitational

    Keyed by solid rounds from the freshman duo of Laura Baker (Victoria, Texas/Memorial HS) and Allie Jordan (Monahans, Texas), the UTSA women’s golf team, in its debut event, is in third place after 36 holes of the Lamar Lady Cardinal Invitational held Monday at Brentwood Country Club (6,060 yards, par 72).

    Baker is in second place at four-over-par 148 after carding rounds of 75 and 73, while Jordan is not far behind in a tie for fourth at 79-76=155. Baker is just one stroke behind individual leader Jessica Garza of Centenary, who fired a 73-74=147.

    The Roadrunners turned in rounds of 313 and 315 for a 36-hole total of 628, just two shots behind Southland Conference rival Texas State (324-302=626). Lamar leads the six-team field at 303-308=611, while Sam Houston State is in fourth (324-315=639), followed by Louisiana-Monroe (314-326=640) and Centenary (333-330=663).

    Sophomore Stephanie Perez (Friendswood, Texas/Troy) is in 18th (77-83=160), while freshman Jenna Wessels (Katy, Texas/Katy HS) and sophomore Michelle Kowalick (Missouri City, Texas/Elkins HS) are in 23rd (82-84=166) and 31st (90-83=173), respectively.

    The third round gets underway Tuesday morning.
