The UTSA women’s golf won the teams first-ever title last week at the Stripes Islander Classic. The Runners shot a final-round 302 and finished with total score of 920, 11 strokes better than runner-up Lamar.
“This win is a huge stepping stone for us,” senior Allie Jordan said. “It was a much needed boost of confidence. We’ve been in contention at least five times this year and this is great.”
UTSA’s Shelly Martinez placed first in the entire tournament shooting a 76-73-74 for the three-day tourney.
Martinez’s individual performance was the teams’ second individual title of the year.
Jordan and freshman Shannon Jungman finished tied for 14th place with a three-round total of 234, while junior Madison McClain registered scores of 77, 79 and 80 (236) to finish tied for 22nd.
“This win now gives us experience for the future and prepared us for the next coming tournaments,” McClain said.
“We have a lot more faith in each other now,” Jordan said. “Now we know how it feels and are going to go out fighting.”
UTSA will play two tournaments over spring break’; March 9 and10 at the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate and March 16 and 17 at the Baylor Invitational.
