Led by senior John Elizondo and sophomore Thomas Kearney, the UTSA men’s golf team is in second place after two rounds of the Cobb/Ferrell Mean Green Classic hosted by North Texas at Lantana Golf Club (7,147 yards / par 72).
The Roadrunners trail second-round leader Jacksonville State by just five strokes and are tied with perennial power Houston at one-over-par 577.
UTSA moved into the tie for second with a three-under, second-round 285 after an opening round 292.
Elizondo and Kearney both fired one-under rounds of 143, with Elizondo carding his 72-71 and Kearney a 71-72, as both are tied for eighth place in the individual standings.
Sophomore Nick Olivarri is tied for 13th after turning in rounds of 74 and a team-low 70 for his 36-hole total of even-par 144.
Junior Kitt Thabungkan is tied for 26th (76-72=148) while junior Matt Johnston (76-73=149) and freshman Kyle Collins (75-74=149) are tied for 33rd.
Andrew Ross of Arkansas State and Ricky Romano of Houston are tied for the individual lead at four-under 140.
The third round is set to get underway Tuesday morning.
