UTSA Spring 2020 commencement will be held virtually
April 25, 2020
UTSA will be holding a commencement ceremony for the class of 2020 virtually on May 23 and 24, according to a public statement made on April 14. The university says it is also considering other ways to celebrate the upcoming graduating class of UTSA.
President Dr. Taylor Eighmy had announced in March that the graduation ceremony would be postponed because the COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible to hold a traditional ceremony.
This virtual ceremony has been referred to as a method to celebrate graduates “in the interim” while the university weighs more options. The UTSA Twitter account, in response to students, said the virtual ceremony will not be the only way the university celebrates its graduates.
“Once gatherings are allowed UTSA will look into all other opportunities,” the UTSA Twitter account wrote.
UTSA is giving graduates from the class of 2020 the option to walk in any future commencements. The university says it is not committing to holding a ceremony in the late summer or early fall because of uncertainty that social distancing guidelines will be lifted by that time.
