Local News: 

As of today, Monday, March 29, COVID-19 vaccines will be available to individuals 16 and older. The only restriction is the Pfizer vaccine is only authorized for individuals below 18. The state will become the most populous to expand vaccination eligibility to all adults. 

 

Good As New Exterior Cleaning, a veteran-owned local business, is offering its services free of charge to non-profit organizations nominated by the community. Owner Craig Lightcap power washes and scrubs the windows of organization buildings as his personal thank you for their work in the community. 

 

The last day for San Antonio residents to register to vote for the May 1 local elections is on Thursday, April 1. This year the ballot includes mayoral candidates, all ten city council seats and Prop B, a proposition set to repeal the police department’s collective bargaining right, along with a plan to amend the City Charter. Early voting begins April 19 and ends April 27. 

 

Coronavirus:

Texas has one of the nation’s slowest vaccination rates. 12% of the state has been fully vaccinated, and only less than a quarter have received one dose. 

 

The state has reported 2,285 new cases and an additional 63 new deaths. The average daily new cases have dropped by 14.8%, according to data from John Hopkins University. 

 

On Monday night, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Commissioner Justin Rodriguez reported 205,258 total COVID-19 cases and 3,144 total deaths in Bexar county. An increase of 159 new cases and no new deaths were added to the count. In addition, there are 192 hospitalizations, and the positivity rate reached 2.05%

 

 Of the 10,885,767 vaccine doses sent to Texas, 8,005,490 have been administered. 5.6%  of the population has received their first dose, while only 9.2% have been fully vaccinated. In Bexar County, 117,727 people, 6.03% of the population, have received the first dose and 172,898 people, 8.85%  of the population, have received both doses.
