The UTSA men’s and women’s golf teams opened their seasons this past week. The men’s team posted a second place finish at Louisiana Tech’s Jim Rivers Intercollegiate tournament. The women’s team recorded a ninth place at North Texas’ Sam Golden Invitational.

Leading the men’s team on the leaderboard for the tournament was Hunter Bott. Posting a fourth place finish with a 7 under par score of 209, Bott and fifth place finisher Christian Fanfelle fueled the Roadrunners’ 848 overall score. Fanfelle was one stroke behind Bott with a score of 210. Both finished the tournament with 14 birdies, respectively.

16 spots back, Jack Wehman shot a one under par performance of 215 to share a 21st place finish with LSU’s Connor Gaunt. David Harrison followed Wehman in 28th. Recording a 217 for three rounds, Harrison finished one over par. Michael Rome rounded out the lineup for the ‘Runners with a par performance of 224 to place 66th overall.

The women’s team traveled to north Texas to claim a top ten finish for the tournament. The ‘Runners’ success was fueled by Hunter Nugent’ eight under par finish at 208. Placing 10th overall, Nugent was one stroke away from tying for ninth. With her under par performance, UTSA finished with 863 strokes at one under par, eight strokes behind Purdue.

Following Nugent, Nicole Polivchak shot a one under 215 for the tournament fueled by multiple birdies for a 28th place finish. Camryn Carreon followed five strokes behind Polivchak with a 220 finish at four over par. Hannah Holzmann tied for 60th overall, shooting a score of 224. Ana Gonzalez finalized the lineup for the ‘Runners one stroke behind Holzmann with a 65th place finish after shooting a 225.

Both teams are back in action Monday, Sept. 20 and Tuesday, Sept. 21. The men’s team is hosting the Lone Star Invitational at TPC San Antonio Oaks Course. The women’s team traveled to Knoxville, Tenn. and is competing in the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship hosted by the University of Tennessee.
