Dear Ms. Sofia Garcia

I was disheartened to learn that the student publication at Texas A&M, The Battalion, received a request from their university leadership to discontinue their long-standing practice of printing weekly editions as well as join a new department under the university. I’m a strong believer in the importance of print journalism and the rights of any student organization, especially a student news source, to make their own decisions on how they move forward. I’m writing to you so that I may make my position clear: your Student Government will always support your right to independence at The Paisano. I can imagine the anxiety you and other student publications alike might be feeling with the recent news. With that in mind, please let me know if there is anything this government can do at this time to support your mission. I’m grateful for all that you and your staff do, and I wish success for The Paisano in the many years to come.
