A Rose

A rose is a rose

Is a rose is a rose.

A rose rose in defiance

From cracks in the road,

A rose helped a man

To charm his betrothed

That one fateful evening

On which he proposed,

A rose petal flutters

In the breeze as it blows,

Another drifts down a dark

Stream as it flows,

A rose lifts its face

To the sun when it glows,

And a rose does the same

To the clouds when it snows

A rose is a rose

Is a rose is a rose.

A rose regrets not;

For it’s not it who chose

But still the rose grows

From cracks in the road,

Or anywhere else its

Little roots can take hold

Existence ‘fore essence,

For the pure, humble rose,

And if a rose can find meaning,

I can too, I suppose.
