The UTSA softball team (9-17) added their ninth win of the season to the record book with a 9-3 victory over the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Tuesday, March 22.

The Islanders were on the board early in the bottom of the second with one run to gain a 1-0 lead. In the top of the third, UTSA answered with a three-RBI homer from the bat of Camryn Robillard. Robillard scored Kat Ibarra and Kaitlyn Morado on the play.

With scoreless fourth and fifth innings, the Roadrunners used a four-run sixth to create a seven-run lead. With two outs, Morado reached first to put the ‘Runners on. Ibarra singled, advancing Morado, and Riley Grunberg singled up the middle to load the bases as Ciarra Mata stepped to the plate. Mata reached on an error by left field as Grunberg and Robillard reached home (7-1). A single from Emily Dear scored Mata as UTSA took an 8-1 lead, and The Islanders were unable to respond in the sixth as they continued to trail.

In the top of the seventh, Caylee Driskill reached on an error by the shortstop and advanced to second. A Morado single to right-center gave Driskill the momentum to add the final UTSA run to the board (9-1).

The Islanders tallied their second and third runs of the game late in the bottom of the seventh to trail by six at the close of the game (9-3).

The ‘Runners will return to Roadrunner Field on Wednesday, March 30 to host I-35 rival Texas State. The first pitch will be thrown at 6 p.m. UTSA will then hit the road to Ruston, La. for a three-game weekend series at Louisiana Tech on April 1-3. The conference series can be viewed on C-USA.tv.
