PHILADELPHIA – UTSA football snapped its two-game losing streak as they beat Temple 49-34 on Saturday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field. Roadrunners quarterback Frank Harris made his return after missing the previous two games completing 25 of 33 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns.
The return of Harris proved to be a much needed boost for the UTSA offense as the team scored a season-high 49 points. The Roadrunners (2-2, 1-0 AAC) trailed early in Saturday’s game before retaking the lead with three touchdowns in the second quarter.
After an early score from Temple, the ‘Runners responded with a 14-yard touchdown run from Kevorian Barnes to tie the game at seven. The Owls (2-4, 0-1) responded with a scoring drive of their own which was then followed by two UTSA scores.
Harris found Joshua Cephus for a 17-yard touchdown pass. Three minutes later, the offense would march down the field to score on a 1-yard rushing touchdown from Harris.
Both Temple and UTSA scored again before halftime with the Roadrunners taking a 28-21 lead.
The ‘Runners scored the third quarters lone touchdown. Harris connected with Tykee Ogle-Kellogg down the field for a 40-yard passing touchdown.
Temple would attempt a comeback by scoring twice in the fourth quarter but the UTSA offense would prove to be too much as UTSA won with a final score of 49-34.
The Roadrunners succeeded on every front today and the team was finally able to force turnovers, something they were unable to do all season. The offense had a great game after struggling during non conference play. The team seems to be clicking at just the right time.
The Roadrunners will be back home for their matchup against the UAB Blazers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, at the Alamodome.
