The disappointing end to the 2023 regular season seems like it took place years ago. For the first time since 2020, the Roadrunners are not participating in their respective conference championship. Now with extra time to heal and the opposing team seemingly spiraling, UTSA has a chance to capture its first bowl win in program history
A member of The Paisano’s sports staff spoke with the sports editor at the Parthenon, Joseph DiCristofaro, to discuss Tuesday’s matchup.
Marshall and UTSA last played in 2018, how has Marshall’s program evolved since then?
“It’s a whole new coaching staff, especially going into this bowl game. Since the last game alone this team has lost four assistant coaches and its starting quarterback. It’s a whole different team so anything from that 2018 game, I don’t think could be compared to right now.”
How does Marshall handle the drama surrounding the team going into this matchup?
“I would say just looking for the consistency that has been there all year from coach Huff. In every press conference from coach Huff he’ll say the same things, that even if they perform badly he’ll back up his players. That’s what they’ve had to lean on all season, that and the resilience of Rasheen Ali at running back, someone that can just continuously produce.”
What player(s) will have to have a spectacular game for Marshall to pull off the upset?
“I would say the entire defense and Cole Pennington, who I can only imagine will be the starting quarterback.”
Who will win on Tuesday?
“I think it’s going to be a very close game. I’m seeing like a 20-17 game, Marshall barely coming out on top.”
The Roadrunners will take on Marshall at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Toyota Stadium.
