San Antonio Brahmas’ starting quarterback Chase Garbers is sidelined for the rest of the season after suffering a wrist injury during the third quarter of Sunday’s 31-24 loss to the St. Louis Battlehawks.
Garbers wrist injury occurred when he was running out of bounds and was hit late by an opposing defensive lineman. However, Garbers played the remainder of the game against the Battlehawks. He finished the game completing 27 of his 41 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown.
Through his first three games, Garbers led the UFL with six passing touchdowns on 75 out of 106 attempts for 586 yards and a 2-1 record for the Brahmas. San Antonio’s second-string quarterback, Quinten Dormady, has been named the starter for the remainder of the season with Tom Flacco as backup.
Dormady was the Brahmas first pick in the UFL’s dispersal draft and was expected to be the day one starter, but after a close quarterback battle in training camp, he was listed as the number two quarterback.
Dormady has ties to the San Antonio region, playing his high school football for his father, Mike, at Boerne High School. As a Greyhound, Dormady was a four-star recruit and was ranked the eighth-best pro-style quarterback in the 2015 class. He signed with Tennessee and later transferred to Houston and finished his college career at Central Michigan.
Dormady spent his first two years in the CFL on the Montreal Alouettes’ practice squad. Last season in the XFL, he spent time with the Orlando Guardians, appearing in seven games and starting in four. He ended the year with 14 touchdowns — 10 in the air and four on the ground, completing 140 of 205 passes for 1,507 yards.
Dormady brings experience to the quarterback position for the Brahmas and gets to play alongside former Guardians teammate, wide receiver Cody Latimer, for the remaining seven games. San Antonio has signed former NFL quarterback Kevin Hogan to serve as the team’s third-string quarterback.
