On Sept. 4, the UTSA Main Art Gallery debuted the international exhibition “Notes for Tomorrow,” assembled by Independent Curators International in 2021. It is a collection of works surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The exhibition is a global collaboration of 30 artists from 25 countries, featuring videos, photography, installations and murals from nearly every continent. Utilizing the diverse perspectives of artists from various cultures, “Notes for Tomorrow” paints a vivid picture of the lockdown experience from every corner of the planet.
Many of the works in the collection explore complex themes of nature, colonialism and cultural conflict that occurred during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The pieces represent individual and cultural accounts of issues lived through during the lockdown, vividly realizing the emotions of those across the globe to create an immersive experience.
Passionate depictions of human rights issues are displayed through interviews and riveting photography advocating for change and an increase in activism on a global scale. The pieces bring much-needed attention to issues often overlooked and provide a unique platform for artists to share their work on a much larger level.
The exhibition will be displayed at the UTSA Main Art Gallery on the second floor of the Arts Building (2.03.04) until Oct. 26. It is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Thursday to Saturday, and is free of cost.
