Students often seek the best academic education and, in doing so, apply to the best universities that meet each and every single one of their standards. U.S. News & World Report ranks universities by what students usually choose as their best option of education in the U.S.; they ranked UTSA as #231 among National Universities.
UTSA offers over 180 choices of academic programs for undergraduate and graduate students, which are available for all who seek higher education and preparation for their desired career path. It also offers financial aid and multiple scholarships that help students reach for success.
UTSA has noted an increase in enrollment rates due to the newly opened programs it has to offer. The university now finds itself with a surprisingly high rate of enrollments compared to last semester’s total of newcomers. UTSA Today states, “a 3% increase over last fall’s total enrollment, according to preliminary data from the UTSA Office of Institutional Research and Analysis.”
The university also found an increase in doctoral enrollment, which UTSA Today reports “This fall, more than 1,000 students are enrolled in UTSA Ph.D. programs, an 8% jump over fall 2023, and entering doctoral students increased by 16%.” There are currently 29 Doctoral programs, including a newly added PhD in chemical engineering, and in School Psychology, which were included in 2023.
Enrollments at UTSA keep increasing, and according to Lynn Barnes, UTSA senior vice provost for strategic enrollment, “UTSA’s commitment to affordability continues to drive enrollment at the university.”
The university provides many opportunities and options to earn scholarships, or opt for financial aid, and just recently, according to UTSA Today, “UTSA awarded $15 million more in financial aid to students this year compared to last year – over $400 million in all.”
While enrollments keep rising, there are still issues concerning graduation rates. Even though there has been progress since 2010 for students completing the 4-year graduation plan, from 6% then to 32% in 2022, it is still very low compared to enrollment rates, which are 90%.
Efforts have been made in order for these numbers to rise. For instance, the Graduation Help Desk serves as “a centralized virtual support center designed to help students resolve roadblocks to graduation.” Another example can be seen in The First to Go & Graduate Program. F2G&G aims to “promote the improvement of academic success, persistence, and successful graduation of students participating in the program.” However, there has not been much progress since it was last reported.
UTSA experienced a rise in enrollments, with more than 35,900 students enrolled for the fall 2024 semester — a sight for a promising future with newly added programs and strategies for student success. Although graduation rates have still not peaked as much as enrollment rates did, the university keeps improving its academic strategies to help students achieve graduation.
