For the first time, Michigan-based indie folk-rock band, The Crane Wives, are set to grace the stage in San Antonio at the Paper Tiger on Friday. The band, known for their evocative storytelling and genre-bending sound. The Paisano had the chance to speak with the bands guitarist and vocalist, Emilee Petersmark, ahead of their stop in the countdown city.
“We’re excited to visit San Antonio for the first time! Every city and audience has a different vibe, and we’re really pumped to see how it feels in San Antonio,” said Petersmark, emphasizing their eagerness to connect with this new audience.
Touring in Texas has already left its mark on The Crane Wives, with the band noting the electric atmosphere at their show in Dallas on Tuesday. “[The] tour just started but so far, I’d say the energy of Dallas has been unmatched. Our drummer Dan writes a different set list for every set, so we get an opportunity to play different songs each night, and I’m really excited to play some of our newest tunes tomorrow!”
The band has spent over a decade on the road, honing their live performance and building a loyal fan base. “We like to consider ourselves road warriors by this point,” Petersmark shared, reflecting on the long drives through the expansive Texas landscape. Despite the challenges of life on tour, The Crane Wives enjoy discovering local spots to eat and unwind. “It’s hard to eat tummy-friendly foods when traveling, so we try our best to look for spots that offer lots of options with veggies.”
With their latest album, “Beyond Beyond Beyond,” which has only been out for a little over a month, The Crane Wives are already witnessing their fans embrace the new material with enthusiasm. “It’s been incredibly gratifying to start premiering the new music from our recent release,” Petersmark said. “The album has only been out for a little over a month but so many fans already know every word on the record.”
One track that has been especially thrilling for the band to perform is “Arcturus Beaming.”
“It’s a much more instrumental-heavy song than a lot of our older music, and it’s been a fun challenge to improvise a guitar solo every night,” Petersmark added.
As they prepare for their San Antonio debut, fans can expect a dynamic set featuring both old favorites like “Curses,” “Allies or Enemies” and “The Moon Will Sing,” alongside newer material from “Beyond Beyond Beyond.” The band is already looking forward to future projects, hinting at taking some time off the road this winter to write and rehearse before heading back out on tour in the spring.
For San Antonio fans, this Friday’s performance promises to be an unforgettable introduction to The Crane Wives’ unique sound and energy. There is still time to pick up tickets, for more information refer to Paper Tiger’s website or official The Crane Wives site.
