Right now in the voting stage, the attempts from both candidates to win the vote of Americans have been nothing less than entertaining. On Oct. 20, in Bucks County Pennsylvania, former president Donald Trump spent a whopping 15 minutes scooping fries and passing them out through the McDonald’s drive-thru to get a leg up in the presidential campaign against Kamala Harris.
McDonald’s is a franchise, which means that its locations are owned and run independently. However, that does not exempt it from certain rules and regulations. It is still given the free will to invite any celebrity to stop by with the media for a friendly visit. Except, McDonald’s did not invite Trump to their establishment on that day; he appeared for his 15 minutes of fame as if it were MTV.
Trump used the known fact that to many, McDonald’s is a daily part of many American lives. It has been since its establishment in 1955 by Ray Kroc in Des Plaines, Illinois where it has always advertised an American family-friendly persona. It has thrived off the happiness of all Americans and remains one of the biggest franchises around the world. It was not a shock to many when Trump’s publicity team decided to have a quick stop by a McDonald’s to do “work” for less than a lunch break.
In actuality, Trump’s act of “kindness” to McDonalds and the public that day was all a stunt. Trump and his publicity team closed that location for the time he was there and had actors go through the line as grateful civilians with only good things to say about Trump. This publicity stunt is no surprise, as it’s not the first time or last time he’s done this. He even went as far as taking full credit for cooking the fries, completely undermining the work of the employees on a daily basis.
When it comes to any stunts pulled by Trump, the only real thing in them is his cruel words and comments about his opposing candidate, Harris. Throughout his time at McDonald’s, it was noted that he expressed that Harris was a phony because he stated she claimed to have genuinely worked at a Mcdonald’s during her time in the summer of 1983 at Howard University, in Washington D.C, and says there is no real evidence of it.
With the time for election day right around the corner, there is no end to what Trump will do for his publicity stunts. His actions will continue to be degrading to Harris, cordial to his paid actors and predictable and two-faced to the public.
