When it comes to protesting, there is no shy way to go about presenting the strong emotions of what the protestors believe in. However, the extent to which they decide to present it is a different concept.
UTSA, for the most part, does not do much to regulate protests of any kind. For example, in the last year, there have been several protests calling for a cease-fire in Gaza. However, President Taylor Eighmy has sent out various messages to faculty and students about the protests as a warning, despite the protestors being non-destructive and non-violent.
It is safe to say that when the anti-abortion protestors come onto campus with their gruesome signs of dead fetuses with disgusting questions such as “Why did my mother not love me?” and “Am I not worthy of life?” they should also come with warnings to the faculty and staff on the main campus.
Before abortion became illegal in Texas, women had about two weeks to get the forming group of cells; a zygote removed from her uterus. However, the images on their signs depict almost fully developed fetuses. The fetuses were already way beyond 6 months of development, creating a misleading picture of what a typical abortion appears like.
They have appeared multiple times on campus, even approaching students passionately about the subject, and screaming about how bad abortion is. It is common sense that compared to the protests about Gaza, the true destructive behavior is coming from the protests about anti-abortion.
When students go to school they are not expecting to see the horrifying images that are presented by the protestors. They use images that show actual babies that are deceased but it can be assumed the images are not accurate to what abortion looks like.
The discomfort they bring to various students and faculty is something worth noting and having its own message sent out. It is just as sensitive a topic as everything else that is protested on campus. It is overlooked because they are seen as non-destructive, but to yell and show graphic images of what they claim abortion to be, should not be tolerated.
