Justice for P’Nut the squirrel and Fred the raccoon for his owner Mark Longo, who were wronged by New York state officials on Oct. 30. State departments of Environmental Conservation and Health raided Longo’s house as if he was a drug dealer, only to obtain the beloved squirrel P’Nut and a recent addition to Longo’s family of animals, Fred the raccoon. The state officials are responsible for the euthanizing of the famous squirrel and raccoon because they assumed they had rabies when taking them into custody. It appears that Elmer Fudd is the mastermind behind all of this. Truly, why else would state officials act so ludicrously because a squirrel and a raccoon were hanging out in a man’s house?
Longo had taken the squirrel into his home and cared for him for seven years after P’Nut’s mom was hit by a car. Rehabilitating him for 8 months after the death of his mom, Longo found it best to keep him in his care after witnessing him get attacked outside. This is due to the lack of survival instincts P’nut had not developed. A 34-year-old man taking care of an innocent creature out of the kindness of his heart should be celebrated and respected, not hunted and destroyed.
P’Nut was a friendly addition inside of Longo’s home in Pine City, a little south of Elmira, NY. Longo lives on 350 acres of land, where he operates his non-profit animal rescue inspired by his relationship with P’Nut. P’Nut’s Freedom Farm protects 300 rescue animals. On a random Wednesday, state officials thought it best to spend their day bombarding an innocent man’s home to aggressively obtain a 1.5-pound squirrel and a clueless raccoon named Fred.
The search warrant that was presented to Longo was apparently for “unlawful possession of wildlife,” but before this raid happened, Longo was actively doing the paperwork to properly own P’Nut as an educational animal. P’Nut became a social media star with over 500k followers and was beloved for his silly antics and playful nature. On social media, Longo and his wife are seen smiling with P’nut enjoying their little furry friend’s company.
As a result of the raid, they are now in mourning, demanding to know why this happened. It is unjust to have 6-8 government officials raid an animal rescue farm for a single squirrel and raccoon. This speaks volumes about this country in the worst way possible. With everything going on in America, why did the New York government officials seem so determined to obtain a pet inside Longo’s home?
P’Nut’s fans stand alongside Longo and the rest of his family of animals, supporting the wrongful death of his pet squirrel and raccoon. No one deserves to be treated as a criminal for housing an animal when they just wanted to give a small creature a comfortable life to live.
