On Nov. 15, Netflix held a livestream event for the Jake Paul v.s. Mike Tyson fight. Paul unanimously won with 78 out of 278 punches landed upon Tyson who is now 58. This win was unethical, unfair and embarrassing for both parties. It seems as though the 27-year-old boxer needed to prove his strength against a weaker opponent whose vitality is fleeting as well as their health. The 31-year age gap is now recorded as the biggest age difference since the 1960s when Archie Moore and Mike DiBiase had fought. However, this fight was an extremely frustrating and boring event that took place in the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which was due to Paul’s lazy attempt to prove his skills in boxing.
The only person Paul has lost in a boxing match so far in his career is Tommy Fury. When the fight took place Tommy was two years younger than him. In another battle with Ali Eson Gib who was six months older Paul ended up winning. The recurring wins against older people, lead to the assumption that Paul is taking advantage of older fighters to use his youth as an advantage in the fight.
The win that Jake Paul had obtained from this fight was, to many, invalid because his youth and health gave him an unfair advantage over Mike Tyson. Paul is 27 years old and made his official boxing debut in January 2020. Tyson on the other hand is 58 years old and retired from boxing in 2005. To have an active boxer compete against a retired boxer who entered the ring wearing a knee brace is pointless and unfair. Paul has the upper hand since he is much healthier than Tyson leading up to the fight.
According to Sports Illustrated, Tyson had also experienced a near-death experience from an ulcer burst just a few weeks before the Nov. 15 fight. On Friday night, Tyson also walked into the ring with a knee brace on. Unfortunately, the 1980s boxing legend did not stand a chance in beating the 227 lb young man. Paul had advantages with his vitality and agility throughout the eight-round fight, so his victory against Tyson, a retired old man, was sad to witness.
