San Antonio residents can finally satisfy their insatiable thirst for unconventional drinks. Gravves Coffee is the ultimate destination for anyone seeking a one-of-a-kind experience. Nestled in the heart of Tobin Hill, Gravves Coffee is not just about coffee; it is about stepping into the world owners Mauricio Cruz and Daniel Contreras have built, a world full of dark charm and cozy comfort. With shadowy decor, potent beverages and welcoming staff, this spot is perfect for anyone — goth or not.
Tucked between a tattoo parlor and a vintage video game store is a mysterious black door. The unmistakable aroma of coffee fills the air, blending with the echoes of strangers’ conversations. The walls of Gravves Coffee are covered with dark art and vintage-inspired fixtures. The staff offer helpful recommendations, ensuring every visitor feels at home. The menu is made to offer a new taste to Texans, mixing bold coffee or espresso with ube or black sesame seeds. Gravves Coffee’s blend is a surprisingly comforting combination of flavors.
“The menu took inspiration from when I was in New York; I wanted to bring that experience back home,” Cruz explained. “My brother and I started during the Covid-19 Pandemic. That was our biggest challenge, and it was a humbling experience having to go through that struggle. We needed to advertise as much as possible on social media to stay in business. It wasn’t long before we started earning the respect of other coffee shops, even reaching an audience as far as New Braunfels and Austin.”
For those looking for a quiet space to work, a cozy corner to read or a unique spot to hang out, this place has it all. Located at 2106 McCullough Ave, Gravves Coffee is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on weekends from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by Gravves Coffee, and be immersed in a truly one-of-a-kind coffee experience.
