After coaching as an assistant with UTSA for 12 years, John Marshall’s first year as head coach of ‘Runners baseball was undoubtedly a success. The Roadrunners won the WAC championship tournament and returned to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2005.
“What’s great is we got a chance to put UTSA on the map with the baseball program, the university, get our name out there and travel and play some great teams,” Marshal said. “This will be a great step forward for a lot of young baseball players on this team because looking forward, you got a lot of these guys returning years to come. The experience will be very valuable down the road.”
UTSA was led by senior Daniel Rockett and junior RJ Perucki who combined to hit 22 home runs for the Roadrunners. The pitching staff was bolstered by Brock Hartson who led the team in wins with nine total, and closer Matt Sims who recorded a team high eight saves and was named the WAC tournament MVP.
