UTSA junior running back and leading rusher David Glasco II will not play today due to a foot injury. Backup and fourth leading rusher Evans Okotcha will also miss the game due to an ankle injury.
First Quarter: UTSA (0) — Tulane (0)
The mood was set in the first quarter as neither team budged on the defensive side.
The Roadrunners opened with a 9-play, 73-yard drive that resulted in a fumble by running back Jarveon Williams, who had rushed for 26 yards on the drive.
But Tulane, even with the three consecutive pass interference calls on UTSA, could not find the end zone on their first drive.
Key First Quarter UTSA Stats:
-Soza was 4-for-8 with 55 yards passing in the quarter.
-The Roadrunners collected three penalties for 34 yards, all on passing plays.
-UTSA was 2-for-3 on third down conversions.
Second Quarter: UTSA (0) — Tulane (7)
The Roadrunners failed to get on the scoreboard, but Tulane delivered the only score of the half on a nine-yard rushing play by running back Orleans Darkwa. The touchdown was aided by a Crosby Adams pass interference call that extended the drive.
Key Second Quarter UTSA Stats:
-Both teams combined for 15 penalties for 150 yards.
-Cole Hubble leads the team with 24 receiving yards.
-Steven Kurfehs has 7 total tackles to pace the Roadrunners.
Third Quarter: UTSA (7) — Tulane (7)
With the offense sputtering, UTSA running back Brandon Armstrong exploded through the Tulane defense for a 68-yard touchdown that tied the game at 7-7.
The Green Wave missed their second field goal of the game that would have put them up by 10 points instead of allowing the Armstrong score.
Key Third Quarter UTSA Stats:
-UTSA only had a possession time of 4:32 in the quarter.
-UTSA’s defense recorded three sacks in the quarter.
-Armstrong’s score was his third rushing this season.
Fourth Quarter: UTSA (10) — Tulane (7)
With a third down and 16 yards to go, Eric Soza scrambled and found Seth Grubb deep down field for a 62-yard pass that would set up a dramatic ending.
After UTSA ran three rushing plays, kicker Sean Ianno made a 34-yard field goal to give the Roadrunners a 10-7 win over the Green Wave.
Not to be forgotten was the UTSA defense that intercepted a last effort pass from Tulane to end the game.
Key Fourth Quarter UTSA Stats:
-Ianno made his third career game-winning field goal for UTSA.
-Grubb’s only reception of the game came on the 62-yard pass.
-Soza passed for 104 yards in the quarter.
Final Summary
The Roadrunners are now 5-5 this season, including a 4-2 conference record. The win extends their game-winning streak to three.
UTSA’s defense was the unsung hero, holding the Green Wave scoreless in the second half and producing three turnovers in the game.
The offense lost their momentum early on with the first quarter fumble, but made the big plays when it counted the most.
