The UTSA softball team has hit some rough patches during this season’s campaign, but the offensive prowess that junior catcher Megan Low has displayed has been a constant bright spot.

In 2012, when Low was just a freshman, she earned the 2012 Southland Conference Fresh- man of the Year and 2012 first- team All-Southland Conference honors, as well as the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll (2012).

So far this season Low has continued her stellar play, earn- ing a C-USA Co-Player of the Week award after hitting three home runs and 10 RBI’s over a three-game span.

Along with Low’s superb hit- ting consistency, she has played in almost every game since joining the Roadrunners and continues to makes plays in clutch moments. Her yearn to play college ball wasn’t instant, but was seen early on.

“I started playing tee-ball, and then when I was about ten years-old I started playing tournament ball, but it was when I was twelve that I started to train with the older girls and thought ‘hey, maybe I could play college softball,’” said Low on when she knew college ball was in her future.

Although she was born in Ft. Worth, Texas; Megan would find her talents in the Greater Houston area, playing catcher all four years for the Spring Li- ons. Megan had caught 91 of the last 105 games over the past two seasons, but has seen a lot more action at first base in her junior season.

“I prefer catcher. I started catching all four years in high school, except the last game where I played shortstop,” said Low of the position she prefers to play. “It was weird, but I just play wherever I’m needed on the field.”

Megan’s performance on the field has also translated to the classroom, where she has received the Western Athlet- ic Conference All-Academic

Honoree (2013) as a sophomore and the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll (2012) as a freshman.

“Being a student athlete, you always have the pressure to per- form; if you don’t pass you don’t play,” said the kinesiology major. “But I mean I have always been driven by my parents, by my family, and just by myself to succeed in the classroom.”

Low can already see that no matter how good things seem, it is necessary to look at the bigger picture at hand and continue to make strides.

“I just came back from shoulder surgery, so rehabbing and getting back to where I was last year is my main goal, but as a team we just want to win conference, and that’s what I’m focused on,” said Low.

Low is currently holding a .429 batting avg., with 42 at bats, eight home runs, 19 RBI’s, and an (OPS) of 1.071. Her offensive expertise is sweeping through C-USA, and it won’t be long before UTSA breaks through, and opens things up in conference play.
