Some of the most neglected monthly expense’s are gym memberships. Although cheaper options are available to people who want a good workout, some people may need a monthly fee for motivation. Some may enjoy working out with their friends or other health-minded people, while others, sign up for a gym membership and find they are too busy to actually go.
If you find yourself buried in work leaving no time for the gym, you may benefit from canceling your membership. Consider the following gym membership alternatives:
Working out at home. If you live in an apartment, you most likely have a gym and pool already. The gym may have all the equipment you need for a good workout, and it would be smart to take advantage of it. Since gyms are an amenity, the fee is already included in your rent. You won’t have to make the drive to the gym, and you will have more time to work out.
If you don’t have a gym in your apartment or you live in a house, you can still get your heart pumping by using workout DVDs or YouTube videos. A variety of exercises are available; including dancing, yoga and cross fit, you can find a form of exercise that works for you.
Working out at school. If you have free time in your daily schedule, consider squeezing in a good workout without leaving campus. With cost included in tuition fees, you can start exercising with an array of group fitness classes at the Main or Downtown Campuses. From Zumba to cycling, you can find time that works for you and join in group classes. You can check out www.campusrec.utsa.edu to find out when classes are offered.
Find time to go to the gym and stick to it. If you need additional motivation, consider working out with a friend. Usually, you are more likely to show up to the gym if you make a promise to a friend.
If you’re not taking advantage of all that’s offered, you’re wasting money that could be used for other expenses. Commit to an option that works for you. If you don’t have the time, (be honest with yourself) look into more frugal options that work with your schedule. In the end, be it a workout at home, campus or a gym membership, start moving towards your health goals today.
