“We Should Hang Out Sometime” is a memoir written by Josh Sundquist: published author, motivational speaker, Paralympic athlete, cancer survivor and YouTube vlogger with over 200,000 subscribers. His resume is hefty, but also makes for many interesting experiences, some of which are recounted in his book.
The entire book started when Josh, at age 25, realized that he had never had a serious girlfriend. Josh of course did what any reasonable person would do, he decided to track down all of his “almost” girlfriends and ask them why it never worked out. The result is “We Should Hang Out Sometime.”
The book is divided up into section based on each “almost” girlfriend. Each section is further divided into a “Background,” “Hypothesis,” and “Results” section detailing how each girl was almost his girlfriend, why he thinks it did not work out, and what the girl had to say about it.
Josh Sundquist is an extremely entertaining person. He speaks to people for a living and has over 200,000 subscribers on Youtube (one of which I am), so hoped and expected that this book would hold my attention throughout. This memoir not only met my expectations, it exceeded them. With a bildungsroman feel, this book encourages the reader to question themselves and how they process and work through situations.
Filled with tales of awkward mini golf dating, encounters with Miss America contestants and a multitude of graphs to explain Josh’s line of thought, “We Should Hang Out Sometime” is a story that will stay with you forever and may even have you designing experiments for yourself. If you want even more Josh Sundquist, you can check out his other published memoir “Just Don’t Fall: A Hilariously True Story of Childhood, Cancer, Amputation, Romantic Yearning, Truth, and Olympic Greatness” and remember: don’t knock it ‘til you read it!
