Ahavah, or Avi (they/them), is a sophomore majoring in Global Affairs and Modern Language Studies with a focus in Russian language and minoring in Intelligence and Security Studies. This is their second year writing for The Paisano. They are originally from upstate New York, but have lived in San Antonio for nine years. Apart from journalism, Avi is a linguist, actress, musician and archer who enjoys reading classic novels and non-fiction. After graduating, they plan on getting their Master’s in International Law at UT Austin and possibly pursuing a Juris Doctor at the University of Liverpool. They are inspired by the South African anti-apartheid activist and politician Nelson Mandela and by Russian musician, artist and political activist Nadya Tolokonnikova.
