Women’s golf posts top-10 finish

The UTSA women’s golf team traveled to Oklahoma last week to compete in Oklahoma’s Schooner Fall Classic. The team of five posted an 866 on the week, landing them in a top-10 finish at eighth, with three top-50 individual finishes.

The Roadrunners were led by junior Camryn Carreon, who posted a four over par 214, one stroke from a top-20 finish. With a second-round par score, Carreon’s 11 birdies fueled her performance for UTSA. UTSA was second in the tournament in birdies with 43, only nine behind leader OU with 52. 

Senior Ana Gonzalez carded a 216, two shots behind Carreon, to finish second on the roster for UTSA. Leading the tournament in birdies with 14, Gonzalez was one stroke under for five holes. Shooting a 74, 70 and 72 for the three rounds, Gonzalez posted a top-30 finish.

Junior Hunter Nugent boosted the ‘Runners scoring with a top-50 finish at 40th. Shooting a nine-over 219, Nugent led UTSA the final day of the tournament with a team-low of 67. Fueled by six birdies, Nugent was third on the leaderboard for the ‘Runners.

Hannah Holzmann landed fourth on the boards for UTSA. The senior posted a 222 for the week, placing her tied for 54th at the finish. Holzmann shot a 70, 79 and 73 for the three rounds.

Rounding out the roster for the ‘Runners, senior Nicole Polivchak closed out the tournament with a 75th place finish. With a pair of 76 round scores and an 80, Polivchak concluded the week with a total score of 232. 

The ‘Runners will be back in action next week, Oct. 11-12 when they travel to the Dale McNamara Invitational hosted by the University of Tulsa.
