UTSA soccer clinches spot in C-USA tournament

UTSA’s soccer team defeated Western Kentucky 1-0 on Sunday, Oct. 23, which was the Senior Night game. The Roadrunners (8-5-4, 3-3-3 C-USA) were seventh in conference standings coming into the match. Only the top eight go to the C-USA tournament. By beating the Lady Hilltoppers (6-8-3, 3-5-1), Western Kentucky falls to seventh, while UTSA jumps to sixth, claiming a spot in next week’s tournament. 

In the first period, UTSA fired seven shots at the goal while holding Western Kentucky to just two. Kendall Kloza passed the ball to Sasjah Dade, who scored a goal in the eighth minute to give the ‘Runners a 1-0 lead. UTSA held a 51 percent possession advantage over the Lady Hilltoppers in the first half.

The Roadrunners kept their defensive aggression, holding Western Kentucky to just three shots in the second period while firing off four of their own. UTSA goalkeeper Mia Krusinski made saves to leave the Lady Hilltoppers scoreless and give UTSA the 1-0 win. The ‘Runners finished the game with 11 shots as Anna Sutter and Lexi Bolton led the team with two shots each.

UTSA has been a dominant first-half team. The Roadrunners have scored 16 first-half goals while only allowing six from opponents throughout the season. The aggression on the offensive side has been consistent throughout the season, having outshot the opposing team 245 to 123. 

The Roadrunners season finale will be at home against UTEP at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28.
