SAN ANTONIO – UTSA took on Tarleton State in game two of their three-game series against the Texans and came out victorious 13-6.

In a complete flip of last night’s game, it was a high-scoring affair today at Roadrunner Field. UTSA ran into trouble early as Tarleton State’s Jake Escalon hit an RBI double to put the Texans up 2-0 early in the first inning. UTSA responded in the first with an RBI double from Garrett Poston to bring it within one. In the bottom of the second, Shane Sirdashney brought in two runners to take the lead. Tarleton responded with a home run from Kooper Shook to tie the game at 3-3.

After going back and forth for the first few innings, UTSA’s offense took off. INF Matt King homered to right field that brought in two baserunners, and Antonio Valdez stole home to give the ‘Runners a 3-point lead. In the bottom of the sixth, UTSA put the game out of reach as Matt King, Antonio Valdez, Leyton Barry, Sammy Diaz and Tye Odom all hit RBIs to make the score 11-3. From there, Tarleton State scored a couple more times to avoid the run rule but never really made it close as UTSA won it 13-6.

UTSA now has an opportunity to complete the sweep in its first season series on Sunday afternoon. Coach Pat Hallmark says the key to the three straight wins will be the defense.

“We need to just throw strikes and play defense,” Hallmark said. “We’ve been throwing strikes, so hopefully we can play a little better defense.”

The Roadrunners will look to sweep Tarleton State at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb.19, at Roadrunner Field.
