UTSA soccer plays final game at Park West, travels to Rice for regular season finale

Roadrunners tie with Florida Atlantic, fall to South Florida at Park West over weekend

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA soccer played its final two home games of the season over the weekend against American Athletic Conference opponents. They tied 0-0 with Florida Atlantic (7-5-5, 3-2-3 AAC) and lost 1-0 to South Florida (9-5-2, 5-1-2).

The Roadrunners (6-7-4, 1-4-3)  played Florida Atlantic on Thursday where both teams tied at zero.

A free shot was awarded to the Bulls and defender Vivianne Bassette launched the ball feet from the goal. Madison Schwartzenberger was there to secure a goal for South Florida as she kicked the ball to the bottom left corner of the goal.

They took a total of 19 shots, 11 of those on goal, at FAU. The Roadrunners were given many opportunities, 11 set pieces to be exact, yet were unable to score on FAU.

Jordan Walker looked to get a goal for the third game in a row against the Owls. Walker took six shots herself but could not put the ball through the net in any of those scenarios.

After winning the Conference USA championship last year, the ‘Runners took a step back in conference standings in their inaugural season in the AAC. In the final year in C-USA, the Roadrunners won 78% of their games at Park West Athletics Complex. Now in the AAC, the ‘Runners have won just 50% of their home games.

UTSA soccer will next face Rice in the team’s final regular season game before the AAC Championships next week. The Roadrunners will play the Owls at 6 p.m. Thursday, at Wendel D. Ley Track & Holloway Field.
