This past week in sports has been eventful in Texas, from the Texas Rangers becoming the 2023 World Series champions to the San Antonio Spurs sweeping the Phoenix Suns in back-to-back matchups.

On Nov. 1, the Texas Rangers won their first-ever World Series in franchise history. The Rangers went up against the Arizona Diamondbacks in game five, dominating the Diamondbacks with a final score of 5-0. The Rangers headed back home to celebrate with a parade at Globe Life Field on Nov. 3.

Continuing with the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, the Mavericks, Stars and Rangers all won their games on Nov. 1. The Dallas Mavericks (4-1) won 114-105 over the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night. Grant Williams led the team with 25 points, five rebounds and one assist. The Mavericks are currently third in the NBA Western Conference. The Dallas Stars (7-2-1) went up against the Calgary Flames. The Stars dominated, winning the game 4-3. On Sunday, Oct. 29, the Dallas Cowboys (5-3) won in a blowout against the Los Angeles Rams, 43-20. The Cowboys are currently second in the NFC East. Their next game will be against the New York Giants at 3:25 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12 at the AT&T Stadium.

Last week, the San Antonio Spurs (3-3) played back-to-back matchups against the Phoenix Suns (3-4). On Oct. 31, the Silver and Black won in a nail-biter 115-114. Forward Keldon Johnson led the team with 27 points, three rebounds and four assists. In game two on Nov. 1, the Spurs won 132-121 over the Phoenix Suns. Devin Vassell suffered a groin injury at the half and is expected to be out for a while.” Victor Wembanyama led the team with a career-high 38 points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Wemby’s performance in this game was quickly raved about through the night on social media.

The No.7-ranked Texas Longhorns are having a smooth season with a current record of 8-1 and are ranked at No.1 in the Big 12. While the Longhorns are already bowl-eligible, they likely already have a chance in the playoffs. Current projections for the 2023 college football season are the Georgia Bulldogs against the Texas Longhorns at 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 1, in the Sugar Bowl. The undefeated No.1-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (9-0) are currently first in the SEC East. This could be a game to watch this upcoming bowl season.

The UTSA Roadrunners (6-3) have also been doing well this season. After this past weekend’s win against the North Texas Mean Green, 37-29, the Roadrunners have secured a bowl game this season. With a rough start in nonconference play, the ‘Runners are 5-0 in the American Athletic Conference. The SMU Mustangs and Tulane Green Wave are also undefeated in conference play. Being third in the AAC, the ‘Runners must win the next couple of games to be in contention for the 2023 AAC Championship.
