Well-known San Antonio comic book shop opens new location

The popular San Antonio comic book shop Heroes & Fantasies has relocated to an even bigger retail space on the city’s north side. The beloved store was previously situated off Loop 410, near Evers Road. This new location shows the store’s significant expansion, offering a wider selection of comics, collectibles and a dedicated gaming area.

The store gives off a warehouse-like feel, yet all the walls are adorned with posters and memorabilia. It is filled to the brim with trading cards, posters, a vast assortment of manga, comic books, Funko Pops, Legos, Hot Toys, Mafex figures, statues and board game items. This comic book superstore proudly claims to be “the largest collectible shop in the state of Texas” on its website

The Funko Pop selection is massive and contains characters from comic books and pop culture alike. Another impressive selection are the statues in the display cases, which feature many cool characters from Marvel and DC.

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by massive, to-scale statues of Hulk, Harley Quinn, Deadpool, Wonder Woman, Darth Vader and Storm. Display cases line the walls, showcasing Pokémon cards and extremely rare comic books, ensuring there is something for everyone.

An entire section is dedicated to signed movie and sports memorabilia. There are football helmets, boxing gloves and jerseys signed by impactful sports icons.

Another noteworthy feature is the dedicated gaming section, equipped with tables for board games and space for hosting tournaments or playing with friends. Near the checkout counter, there is even a spot showcasing art from local artists, demonstrating the store’s support for the local creative community.

While the store’s massive size may seem intimidating to new customers, each section is meticulously organized, and the employees are always ready to assist. Operating hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The second location of Heroes & Fantasies is at 920 Pat Booker Road, Universal City, TX, 70148. This comic surplus store will give other comic book shops a run for their money due to its sheer size and extensive product offerings. It is truly a gem for comic book fans and anyone who loves fiction and sci-fi. Everyone should make a point to visit and support their local comic book shops.
