UTSA volleyball lost to Tulane University 3-0 on Wednesday night at the Convocation center.
The ‘Runners (6-11, 0-4 AAC) first faced off against the Green Wave (10-7, 2-3 AAC) in 1990; UTSA lost the match 3-1. The Roadrunners came into this game on a six-game losing streak
“I think based on these last two games we really tried to just go for it and play looser, if you make a mistake you just let it go,” sophomore middle blocker Kai Bailey said. “I think we really tried to apply that to the Tulane game. I think we did a good job of that but late in the game we kinda lost it a little bit, which is why Tulane had a little more success than us.”
Tulane took control of the ball and won the set 25-18.
The second set saw numerous long rallies. When Tulane setter Zoe Rachow went up to serve for the first time against UTSA, junior outside hitter Caroline Krueger received the ball. Krueger set it up for sophomore setter Annika Sokol. Sokol reached for the ball and the Roadrunners geared up for a fake out.
Sokol sent the ball towards freshman outside hitter Ally Tribe. Tribe jumped and pulled her right hand back. She went for the kill down the left line. The ball was touched by Tulane’s block and dug up by Rachow. The Green Wave middle blocker Jordan White jumped to push the ball over but Bailey also jumped, hit the ball down and successfully took the point for the ‘Runners. It was not enough to secure the win and UTSA lost the set 25-23.
Bailey led the Roadrunners with 10 kills in the match, junior Mia Soerensen had nine and Kruger had eight.
“Tough loss today, offensively we did some really great stuff during sets two and three but gotta be able to finish those sets out,” coach Carol Price-Torok said. “Just got to rebound and stay the course to get ready for North Texas on Sunday.”
UTSA will play University of North Texas at 1 p.m. Sunday at North Texas Volleyball Center.
