In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, UTSA’s Downtown Campus has sponsored a festival showcasing a variety of cultural Latin festivities, including music, dancing and vendors. Jazz performances were played throughout the day, with award-winning artists like Nestor Torres, The Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Powerhouse Big Band and even the U.S. Army’s Latin Jazz Band. Dancers like Jeanitza Avila and the Salsa On2 Dance Company showcased their talents through salsa performances and lessons for all to join.
Vendors were also allowed to volunteer, selling their crafts and food for the full experience. The food stands offer options such as Aguas Frescas, Tazas De Fruta, Mini Taquitos, Monterrey-style corn and cocktails and beer. Artisans showed off their handmade bags, jewelry, shoes, hats and plushes.
With no cost of attendance, this all-day experience of Latino culture is unique and definitely worth checking out next year.
