Local News: 

Charles Butt, HEB CEO, has received praise and support for his letter to Governor Greg Abbott. Sent last Tuesday, the letter urged Abbott to send all federally appropriated relief funds to Texas schools as quickly as possible.

 

Lin’s International Buffet, a far west San Antonio restaurant, was cited after violating COVID-19 protocols. The business has no indication that directed customers to use plastic gloves to self-serve themselves, and glove use was not enforced. The restaurant was also written up after a cook was seen holding raw foods with their bare hands. 

 

The Texas Freshwater Fisheries center has partnered with Fishing Future and the Vamos A. Pescar Education Fund to provide fishing education for families in Texas. 24 in-person fishing events are being hosted in San Antonio through May 31. 

 

Coronavirus:

Of the 19,312,495 vaccine doses sent to Texas, 15,151,731 have been administered. 14.7%  of the population has received their first dose and 20.4% have been fully vaccinated. In Bexar County, 224,458 people, 11.49% of the population, have received the first dose, and 376,814 people, 19.3% of the population, have received both doses. 

 

On Monday night, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Commissioner Justin Rodriguez reported 210,796 total COVID-19 cases and 3,280 total deaths in Bexar county. An increase of 317 new cases and no new deaths were added to the count since last week. In addition, there are 217 hospitalizations. According to Mayor Nirenberg, the positivity is 2.4%, one of the lowest of any Texas metropolitan area.
