SGA certifies election results

UTSA’s Student Government Association conducted its annual election from Monday, March 1 to Thursday, March 10. Newly elected students will begin their terms in the upcoming Fall 2022 semester and continue through the Spring 2023 semester.

 Overall, 774 students — 2.45% of UTSA’s student body — participated in the election.

Jasmin Paquet-Durand Ford was elected president. Paquet-Durand Ford, who served as the student body vice president for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters, received 84.88% of the total vote, while 10.98% of participating students chose to abstain. 

Student body secretary Shaca Sweet was elected the new vice president, receiving 61.11% of the total vote, while opponent Zachary Nepote received 31.39% of the total vote. 

Marc-Anthony Medina was elected treasurer, receiving 63.17% of the vote, while candidate Daniel Pacora received 25.06% of the vote.

Other elected officeholders include Melissa Montelongo, Yasmin Gonzales Morales and Zane Gray, who were elected as COFLA Senators, receiving 32.95%, 29.5% and 25.28% of the vote, respectively. Ethan Apawan and Juan Abel Alaniz were elected as College of Science Senators, receiving 43.01% and 38.54% of the total vote, respectively.
