SAN ANTONIO – Home runs from Leyton Barry, Matt King and Isaiah Walker led the Roadrunners to a 5-3 victory over the Florida Atlantic Owls in the series’ final game on Sunday evening at Roadrunner Field.

Isaiah Walker led the team with 2 hits, 2 RBIs and a home run.

“We can hit; we’re in a good spot right now, but hitting is the hardest thing to do in sports,” coach Pat Hallmark said. “We’re not going to be this hot all the time but we’re swinging the bat good right now.”

The Roadrunners offense was on fire in the first inning as Barry blasted a home run to right field to give UTSA the early lead. Not too long after Barry’s at bat, King would knock one out of the park to make the score 2-0.

Three innings later, FAU would score one thanks to an RBI single down the right field line.

UTSA responded that same inning with an Isaiah Walker home run to score two and extend the Roadrunners lead to three.

An RBI double from FAU would cut the Roadrunners lead to two.

A Sammy Diaz RBI double in the bottom of the sixth would get UTSA’s lead back up to three.

FAU would tack one on in the final inning, but it would do nothing to change the outcome, as UTSA would win with a final score of 5-3.

This win would complete the second series sweep for UTSA this season and their first series win in conference play.

“We’re off to a good start but it’s a long season,” Hallmark said. “Right now we’re focused on UTRGV, but it’s nice to have this start in conference play.”

The Roadrunners next contest will be against UTRGV at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, in Edinburg, TX.
